Tweetpee Tells You When It’s Time for a Change

tweetpeeWhen I first came across this I thought it was a joke, but apparently this is the real deal. Huggies markets a device you attach to a diaper that senses when there’s a “moisture” change and sends you a tweet. Right now it appears it’s only available in Brazil. Test market? Maybe. What’s next, Tweetpoop?

For iPad Owners Who Thought They Had Everything

Double Robotics

Got 2 iPads and  a couple of thousand dollars to spare? If you do then you could become a complete couch potato. Actually there are some worthwhile practical applications for this, but the couch potato scenario was the first thing that came to mind.

From their website:

“Double is the simplest, most elegant way to be somewhere else in the world without flying there. The minimalist design and intuitive touchscreen controls allow you to freely move around without inconveniencing others. You can stay at eye level, whether sitting or standing, by adjusting your height remotely, which makes conversations fluid and real. Retractable kickstands will automatically deploy to conserve power when you are not moving around. Efficient motors and lightweight design give Double the ability to last all day without recharging the battery.”

I Can See Clearly Now with Evernote!

evernote-clearly-175If you been reading this blog over the past year, you’ll know I’m a big fan of Evernote. It’s an extraordinary productivity tool. I use it every day and it makes my internet existence very easy to organize and manage. One of my gripes when I first started using Evernote was that web pages I saved were often cluttered with ads, unrelated graphics, links etc. I just wanted the article, not all that other stuff! Then I discovered Clearly, an extension that works with the browser of your choice.

Once I find the page I want to save to Evernote, I simply select Clearly from my browser and it clears out the clutter, leaving me with just the content I want, nothing more, nothing less. Amazing!!!! Check out this short video about using Clearly for Evernote.

Of course if you want to save those all those ads, unrelated graphics and links, then Clearly is not the extension for you.

Choosing A YouTube Poster Frame

I love YouTube. The idea that you can post a video that potentially can be seen by millions or just a few friends across the country, heck across the world is awesome. But I’ve always been annoyed by the fact that it’s impossible to choose your poster frame when you upload a video to YouTube. All this cutting edge technology and you can’t choose the best frame available to represent your masterpiece? That’s ridiculous. Maybe you don’t care if it’s a swish pan mish mash of color that has nothing to do with the actual content of your piece, but I do. Sure they give you three choices but often those three choices are not very good. People have suggested that there are various formulas one can apply to determine what your poster frames will be. Frankly, I’ve never seen any of these formulas work with any consistency. What I did discover by accident is that you can change the poster frame choices YouTube has forced on you by using the advanced features after you upload your video. After you log in, go to the Video Manager choose “Enhancements” from the drop down menu of the video.

You’ll get a new screen where you can choose how you want to “enhance” your video. I usually like to use “I’m Feeling Lucky”.

It usually gives me a bit more color saturation, sometimes better contrast. I didn’t change the length of my video. And no convoluted math formulas.

But the best part is that when it finishes processing your video it gives you 3 NEW POSTER FRAMES!!

I simply applied the  ”I’m Feeling Lucky” enhancement and there they were. Try it. Right now it’s the best option I’ve found to obtain a potential useable YouTube poster frame. Or at the very least a few more options to choose from.

Discover the Cloud – DROPBOX UPDATE

Almost a year ago I gave you an introduction to Dropbox. Here’s a recap.

“Cloud computing has been with us for some time now and I’m surprised at how many people haven’t taken advantage of the many free options available. One of my favorites is DROPBOX. A 2 GB account is free, and if you use my link for DROPBOX you’ll get an extra 250 MB of cloud storage. It works with many mobile apps as well as your computer applications, helping keep your computer and mobile devices in sync. It works on Mac or PC. Check out the tour for details on how to make the most of DROPBOX.

(Full disclosure: I get an extra 250 MB free as well, but hey, once you set up your account you can earn extra free storage referring your friends too.)

UPDATE: First of all, here’s some great news. Now you get 500MB, not 250MB. And here’s an additional way to get even more storage space. It’s as simple as uploading a picture. After you sign up for your free account and install the latest version of DROPBOX, plug in your digital camera and you’ll get a prompt to upload your camera’s pictures to the “Camera Uploads” folder in your Dropbox. As soon as you do, you’ll get 500MB of additional space added to your account, even if you upload just one picture, regardless of size. That was easy! After that, you need to upload 500MB of pictures for every 500MB worth of free space, up to a maximum of 3GB. Have fun!
